Terms & Conditions

Consent to Treatment

By attending an appointment at our clinic, you acknowledge that you willingly give consent to our physiotherapists to perform any and all necessary examinations and treatment procedures in accordance with their professional training, qualifications and understanding of your injury. You understand that, during your treatment, different physiotherapists at Saltwater Physio may be involved in your care.

You understand that you have the opportunity to discuss the nature and purpose of your physiotherapy care, with your physiotherapist, before any treatment is performed, and that you may opt out of treatment at any time.

You acknowledge and accept the following:

1. Assessment

1.1 A consultation involves you answering detailed questions about the site, severity and nature of your complaint as well as questions concerning how it began, the possible cause, its present 24-hour behaviour and any past medical or health problem that may be relevant. A physical examination or assessment will follow which will involve undressing the relevant and related areas.

Appropriate undergarments should be worn, but towels to preserve your modesty are available so please ask if you feel you require them. The examination is carried out to exclude unrelated problems and clarify your complaint so that clinical diagnosis and treatment options can be considered.

This may continue each time you see the physiotherapist as problems often change in site, irritability and nature from treatment to treatment. Treatment options will always be discussed with you, as your agreement and co-operation are necessary at each stage.

2. Treatment

2.1 Physiotherapy involves physical treatment, which may include “hands on” treatment, among other treatment options.

2.2 You have the right to choose the physiotherapist that you wish to see, refuse treatment, or seek a second opinion at any time.

2.3 There are risks associated with treatment, including stiffness and soreness, soft tissue injury, neurological complications, cerebrovascular injuries, skin irritations, burns and other minor complications.

2.4 The chance of risk is lowered by a thorough assessment of your condition, and we take every precaution to minimise risk.

2.5 In many cases, other treatment options exist. If your condition is not musculoskeletal in nature, or the risk of physiotherapy is considered to be too high, your physiotherapist may refer you on to other forms of care if they believe your condition is outside of their scope of practice.

2.6 There may be risk of remaining untreated. Remaining untreated can result in formation of adhesions, scar tissue and other degenerative changes. These changes can increase pain, which can result in chronic pain cycles, and can result in losses in range of motion and function. Delay in treatment can lead to further complications.

3. Consent to Obtain and Release Information

3.1 To speed up processing and management of your injury or condition, you accept it may be necessary to communicate the details of your medical condition with treating practitioners, doctors, rehabilitation consultants, specialists, case managers, and solicitors that are involved in your case.

3.2 By consenting to these Terms and Conditions you give permission to Saltwater Physio to exchange such information about your injury, condition or claim, as well as significant past medical history, with people deemed necessary by Saltwater Physio. Your privacy is critical to us. Likewise, we have a comprehensive Privacy Policy, which includes details of how we gather, utilise, impart and reveal individual data. You may view our full Privacy Policy on our website.

4. Exclusion of Liability

4.1 The director of the practice and any employees of this practice shall not be held liable for, nor accept any responsibility for any injury, loss or damage sustained by any person or persons resulting from treatments or procedures delivered in this practice or by our physiotherapists or in any way whatsoever which does not arise from any negligence of the practice director or the practice employees.

5. Privacy and Contact

5.1 Saltwater Physio may send you SMS or email confirmation for appointments.

5.2 You may, from time to time, receive emails, marketing or surveys from Saltwater Physio. These are used to improve our services, and to offer our customers promotions and discounts.

5.3 You have the right to opt out of any SMS or email contact at any time.

5.4 Your details will never be shared with a third party except in cases where details are used to support you in your claim or injury, as outlined in clause 3. Consent to Obtain and Release Information.

5.5 This is a short summary of our Privacy Policy as related to consent to receive notifications and communications. You can view our complete Privacy Policy on our website.

6. Payments and Billings

6.1 You are required to pay for the services provided, and any items provided, on the day of your consultation.

6.2 Payment can be made over the phone, or at the clinic where you attend your session.

6.3 If you are using medical insurance to pay for your treatment you should contact your insurers to establish exactly what your policy covers and how to make a claim. A HICAPS facility is available to process claims at the time of payment.

6.4 Where you produce a Medicare card or Private Healthcare Insurance card, you will be expected to pay the outstanding “Gap fee” towards the cost of your appointment.

6.5 If you forget to bring your Medicare card or Private Healthcare Insurance card to your appointment, you will be subject to pay the full appointment cost. We will not take Medicare or Private Healthcare Insurance payments in retrospect.

6.6 There is no refund available on the purchase of any personal or healthcare items if you change your mind. If the item has a major problem, we can either refund or exchange the item for you. If the problem is not major, we will repair it for you within a reasonable time-frame.

6.7 Our strict billing methods allow us to continue to provide high quality treatment for all of our patients and are in no way designed to exclude or discriminate against any persons or groups of people.

7. Late Arrivals and Missed Sessions

7.1 If you arrive late to your session, but within your appointment time frame, you may still receive treatment for a reduced time, within the remainder of your allocated appointment time.

7.2 If you miss your appointment or arrive outside of your appointment time frame, you will be charged a cancellation fee of one hundred percent of the full appointment cost.

7.3 If you are able to organise a rescheduled appointment within the same business day, no cancellation fee will be charged. This is subject to the availability of our clinicians.

7.4 You may cancel or reschedule an appointment so long as you provide us with a minimum of twelve hours’ notice prior to your appointment. Without twelve hours’ notice, you will be charged a cancellation fee of one hundred percent of the full appointment cost.
